FIFA Clear Dennis Aogo To Star For Nigeria
It's a huge boost for the Super Eagles, as they will now be able to call upon the former Germany U-21 star.
Under established rules, players with dual nationality who had already played for a country's national team at youth level were only allowed to switch loyalties until the age of 21.

However, a motion from the Algerian Football Association, removing the reference to the age limit, was passed on Wednesday by 58 per cent of the FIFA Congress, opening the way for many players to get a second chance in international football.

This ruling therefore clears the way for many African players, including Hamburg star Dennis Aogo, whose recent invitation by Nigeria caused a furor because he had played for Germany at age-group level and was already older than 21 when he was called up by coach Shuaibu Amodu.

Aogo, who played a big role as Hamburg reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup this past season, has already declared his interest to play for his father's nation of birth.

However, West Ham United's Charlton Cole, who was also called up by Amodu, cannot feature for the Super Eagles as he has since played for the England senior team.

The Algerian change was backed heavily by African countries, many of whom will now hope to 'regain' players who have played at youth level for European countries.

Algeria could now have access to several players who have featured in France's youth teams, such as Lazio midfielder Mourad Meghni. Born in France to Algerian parents, Meghni represented Les Bleus at Under-17 and Under-21 levels but has never played for the full national side.
